What is MAT LAB ? Why it is most important to Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) students? Which books are best to learn?

MATLAB is a multi model numerical computing environment and a 4th generation programming language which is developed by Math Works. MATLAB is not only a programming language; it is a programming environment as well.

MATLAB stands for Matrix Laboratory was founded in 1984 by Jack Little, Steve Bangert, and Cleve Moler. Moler, a math professor at the University of New Mexico, developed the first version of MATLAB in FORTRAN in the late 1970s. It only had 80 functions and no M-file or toolboxes. Little and Bangert reprogrammed it in C and added M-files, toolboxes, and more powerful graphics.

MATLAB allows matrix manipulations, 2D and 3D plotting of functions and data. It will allows interfacing with the programs which are written in other languages like C, C++, JAVA, FORTRAN and Python. There are so many Toolboxes in the MATLAB with plenty of inbuilt functions, due to this programming will be easier.

MATLAB play an important role in Signal Processing, Communications, Control Systems, Neural Networks, System Analysis, Image Processing, Data Acquisition, Mathematical modeling, Embedded Systems, Automobile, Aerospace etc…
